Setting Up a Home Office: The Starter Checklist
A workspace you can sit in all day doesn't need to be expensive — it needs the right few pieces. Here's what to get first.
The core setup
A supportive chair — adjustable height and real lumbar support matter more than thick padding; this is the one piece worth spending on.
A desk at the right height — around 73–75cm suits most people, or choose a height-adjustable model if you share the space.
Storage you can reach — a mobile file cabinet that rolls under the desk keeps paperwork off your work surface.
Lighting — a desk lamp beside the monitor rather than behind it, to avoid glare on the screen.
A footrest — useful if your feet don't sit flat once the chair is at the correct height.
Getting the basics right
Set the chair first, then the desk, then the screen. Your elbows should rest at roughly 90 degrees, your feet flat on the floor, and the top of the monitor level with your eyes.
